On the 1st November 2013 it was the anniversary of my re-birth, the date I left behind over 21 years of domestic violence and abuse.
The week before the very marvellous @katiemagnet tweeted about her breast core biopsy to raise awareness for breast cancer and it gave me an idea, this could be done for domestic violence and abuse, a #victimseducation.
On the 1st November OneVoice Never Silenced began the first #victimseducation tweetathon which was about my own personal experiences as I went from victim to the path of survivor, a week later I did the second and in total 23 new victims were reached and signposted to help.
On Friday the 15th November at 8pm GMT the very first multi lingual #victimseducation tweetathon took place in the following languages:
English, French, Bengali, German, Polish, Dutch, Hindi and Danish (we are also hoping that they will be translated into Kurdish and Kurdish Urdu too.) I am happy to disclose that a woman, a domestic violence victim who did not speak English but Polish came forward - she has now been signposted and her and her four children are safe after almost ten years.
Translators convert the tweets which are then loaded into my tweet box and if all goes to plan every single tweet will goes out at exactly the same time but in a different language! Think of the awareness this raises, think of the victims that can be reached, think of the warning signs that can be delivered! Can we really hope to get #domesticviolence, #abuse and #victimseducation trending on Twitter in multiple languages? I hope so.
