My invitation to William Roache

Dear Mr Roache

Yesterday I woke to your comments to TVNZ where you stated the following "If you accept that you are pure love.... and therefore live that pure love, these things won't happen to you."  When you were pressed further by reporter Garth Bray who stated "To some people that sounds perhaps like your're saying victims bring things on themselves," you replied "No, not quite, but then yes I am.  Everything that happens to us is the result of what we have been in previous lives."

Now your words have hurt me and no doubt millions of other victims and survivors.  I am now going to speak from personal experience but before I do that I am extending a peaceful hand to you and offering to come and speak with you, educate you.

Last night on twitter I tweeted you a series of messages, I do not know if you received these but note that you have posted your statement on twitter.

Your lack of empathy and knowledge has been blasted into the media headlines, this can only be a positive thing for all abuse as you have aided in bringing this to the worlds attention.  Yes your comments were scathing, yes they have caused a great deal of upset but they have also raised so much awareness for abuse and that can only be a good thing.  I am now reaching out to you, I am not an expert but I am a survivor and I ask for only an hour in your company so we may chat.  I am a very peaceful person who has a dream and I want to share it with you.  Let me educate you, let us educate one another and I hope you will also lend me your voice and join us raising awareness for World Peace Day.  I am by no means taking sides because I fully understand that in this country a person is innocent until proven guilty and I know that one of your dearest friends is currently awaiting to go to trial for historical sex abuse charges.

I am not here to lay blame at anyone's door Mr Roache what I would like is to sit and talk with you, let me educate you on how it feels to be a victim, how deeply afraid it makes one feel.  Victim blaming is wrong, our victims need our help not harsh, cruel words. I was once a victim and very, very afraid but I escaped, I lived to tell my story and I am now using my past to help others.  I may be tiny in stature but my passion is immense Mr Roache.

I also listened to your apology, you made a mistake Sir when you said that none of these cases had been brought to trial yet.  A precious life has been lost because of historical sex abuse, Frances Andrade took her own life after giving evidence in court in the Cheetham School of Music historical sex abuse case, imagine how her family, her son is feeling because of your words.

We all have ownership of the words we speak and your words have caused an enormous amount of anger and upset and I hope you will accept my invitation.

I await your reply with anticipation.
Eve Thomas x
